Children's Leather and Wood Bearded Axe Hand crafted to resemble an authentic Bearded Axe - click on close up image below to see comparison. Approximately 36" handle with 5.5"x5.5" axe head and .5" thick. Axe blade is made of hardened leather dyed black for durability. Item# CJBA     $20.00 The bearded axe or Skeggox (from Old Norse Skegg, beard + Ox, axe)was a popular style as early as the 6th century AD. It is most commonly associated with Viking era Scandinavians.   This weapon, named because the lower part of the head is flat instead of pointed, was a particularly devastating style due to fact that the broad, thin edge was backed by a thick body for resiliency. The cutting edge of the bearded axe extends below the width of the throat, providing a wide cutting surface while keeping the overall weight of the axe low. Such a weapon could strike hard against a man in armour, or compromise a shield with its sheer force. Such weapons were often two-handed for control and power.

Although the name retains its Scandinavian heritage, the Dane Axe became widely used throughout Europe from 12th.-13th century, as axes gained acceptance as a knightly weapon.   In the Bayeux tapestry the axe is almost exclusively wielded by well armored body guards of the King.

 

Children's Leather and Wood Spear or Lance No Knight or Warrior would step onto the Battlefield without their trusted Spear or Lance. Utilized either on foot or horseback this simple yet effective weapon allowed the Warrior to strike their foe from a distance. Spears were oft 3 to 7 feet in length while Lances reached up to 12 feet or more. Approximately 48" shaft with 9.5"x3" spear head and .5" thick. 	The Medieval Mace is one of the very earliest of weapons from the Middle Ages. The mace developed from man’s oldest weapon, a stone topped club, to an elaborate weapon that did not need to breach the armor to cause injury.  For centuries the mace has have been a symbol of power. European maces suggested wealth and status to their owners, however their use was not exclusive to the privileged.

Child's Linen Backed Longbow This Child's Medieval Longbow is made from Red Oak backed with Linen. The bow is 48 inches long and pulls between 10 and 15 pounds at 18 inches.  The bow is permanently finished and needs no maintenance. The Child's Linen Backed Longbow is fully functional.
