We tested the bows for hours and enjoyed every shot. The pull weight is perfect for target practice, re-enactors & some LARP events (check local restrictions). $10.00 additional shipping included with this item, cannot be shipped express, or air.

Warbow

The bow is similar to those recovered from the Mary Rose, a warship that sank in 1545. The bow is 76 inches long, with a draw length up to 32 inches. While bows from the Mary Rose pulled up to 150 pounds, this bow is offered with a draw weight of up to 50 pounds. The bow is made from select Red Oak backed with linen. The limbs are tillered slightly wider than the original. As with warbows of that day, there is no handle wrap but rather a small indentation to indicate hand placement. The bow is permanently finished and needs no maintenance.

Japanese Yumi Style Bow w/ three arrows
For centuries the warriors of Japan (Samurai) armed themselves with an extra long wood bow. The reason they used this style of weapon is uncertain, but the asymmetrical design allows the wrist and bow hand to be in perfect alignment at full draw, making for an accurate and sweet shooting bow. Its great length also allowed for a long draw which greatly increased arrow speed and power. Though the days of the Samurai warriors have long since passed, this bow is still used for the practice of a martial art call Kyudo (Japanese archery), which is growing rapidly. The bow is made from Red Oak backed with linen and is 84 inches long. It pulls between 30 and 35 pounds at 32 inches making it perfect for beginning practitioners of Kyudo. Included with the bow are three 44 inch arrows with a self nocks, and heat tempered tips. They are fletched with two natural turkey feathers.

WB-Yumi $125.00

Child's Bow

This Child's Bow is made from Red Oak backed with Linen. The bow is 48 inches long and pulls between 10 and 15 pounds at 18 inches. ADULT SUPERVISION IS REQUIRED. The bow is permanently finished and needs no maintenance. Requires purchase by an adult (age 18 or older).

WB-Childs bow $57.00

Welsh Short Bow

Given that there are no surviving artifacts of this weapon, exactly what it looked like is anybody's guess but evidence seems to suggest it was a very short bow. This design is based on a four foot bow made from Elm but in this case is made from linen backed Red Oak, which is very similar. It pulls between 40 and 50 pounds.

No matter what your draw length, this bow should only pulled to 20 inches or less, allowing anyone to shoot it. If you cannot pull to the full twenty inches that's okay, just draw as far as you can and release. This weapon is designed for snap shooting at distances up to 15 yards or so which makes it ideal for hunting in thick brush, reenactment, or just target shooting.
This bow is designed to be pulled no more than twenty inches.
WB-Welsh short bow $105.00

Defender

This bow is made from Red Oak backed with linen and is about 72 inches long. It pulls between 30 and 35 pounds at its maximum drawn length of 28 inches. It is flat on the back and round on the belly, a classic "D" bow design, which given the type of wood available and ease of manufacture would have been the likely choice for longbows made in Medieval times. The bow is permanently finished and needs no maintenance.

WB-Defender  $85.00

Battlebow

This bow is made from Red Oak backed with linen and can be custom tillered to a maximum draw weight of 45 pounds and a maximum draw length of 32 inches. The bow is 72 inches long for a 28 inch draw, with a flat back and a round belly. Also, like the Defender it is a classic "D" bow. This design was fairly easy to make from local materials making it the weapon of choice for the common man. This is a hunting strength weapon well able to take down deer sized game at close range. The bow is permanently finished and needs no maintenance

Linen Backed English Longbow

Our custom English Style Longbows are modeled after those made of white woods, such as Elm or Ash. These were occasionally used when Yew wood was not available. These woods were not as elastic as Yew and required a slightly different tiller in order to function properly. Bows made from these woods also did not require horn nocks as the wood was considerably harder than Yew. It is a great bow for target shooting, hunting, or reenactment. The bow is 72 inches in length and up to 1 1/2 inches in width at the handle, with a maximum draw weight of 45 pounds. The bow is flat on the back, round on the belly, and is made from Red Oak backed with linen. The bow is permanently finished and needs no maintenance.

The bow is made from a single piece of Red Oak backed with linen and is solid black with no other painting on it. The handle is wrapped with gold cord which may vary slightly in color and texture.

Medieval Practice Bearded Axe
Hand crafted to resemble an authentic Bearded Axe. Axe blade is made of hardened leather dyed black for durability. The bearded axe or Skeggox (from Old Norse Skegg, beard + Ox, axe) was a popular style as early as the 6th century AD. It is most commonly associated with Viking era Scandinavians.
This weapon, named because the lower part of the head is flat instead of pointed, was a particularly devastating style due to fact that the broad, thin edge was backed by a thick body for resiliency. The cutting edge of the bearded axe extends below the width of the throat, providing a wide cutting surface while keeping the overall weight of the axe low. Such a weapon could strike hard against a man in armour, or compromise a shield with its sheer force. Such weapons were often two-handed for control and power. Munich Sword
Circa 1600. There are several of these swords in different private and public collections, one in the wallace Collections and several at the Bavarian National Museum. It s a perfect example of German Military Cut-and-Thrust Swept Hilt and was carried by the Munich Town Guard. The slightly shorter blade and stout hilt were perfect for breaking up a street fight or tavern brawl, as the town guard was often employed to do, and was clearly intended for practical use. One of the most practical and prolific swords we have ever offered. Has a well-tempered 1095 high carbon steel blade. The pommel and guard are steel and the grip is wood wrapped in twisted steel wire for a very positive hold. Made by Windlass Steelcrafts, includes scabbard. Matching dagger (MR402806) available.

Coustille
Circa 1300. The Coustille was developed in an effort to create an all-in-one weapon. It served as both a long dagger and a short sword, making it popular with knights as well as the rank and file. Convenient to carry like a dagger but with the cutting power of a short sword, it was long enough to use for defense but still could be thrust under a belt to ride easily with. The well-tempered blade is light and very fast with the cutting power of a short sword. It could pass as a dagger in towns where only nobles could openly carry a sword, making it a favorite for the ne’er do well. Steel pommel and guard with a wood grip covered in leather. Includes scabbard. Made by Windlass Steelcrafts®. Can be sharpened for additional fee.
Overall: 22" Blade: 16-3/4" long, 2" wide, 3/16" thick Wt: 1 lb/6 oz

Great Ouse River Sword
Circa 1370-1400. This superb sword is copied from an Oakeshott Type XVII found in the great Ouse River at Ely in Cambridgeshire, England and is housed in the Flitzwilliam Museum. It's a leading example of the "Sempach" family of swords, named for two very similar swords found in graves at the site of the Battle of Sempach fought near Zurich in 1386. This is a long thrusting sword and like the original, surprisingly light, beautifully balanced and "ready" in the hand. The pommel and guard are steel. The two-hand grip is wood covered in cord and leather, while the blade is well tempered 1095 high carbon steel. Comes with scabbard. This sword can be seen in E. Oakeshott's book "Records of the Medieval Sword". An important sword type for your collection or a great sword to start one with. Made by Windlass Steelcrafts. Classic Medieval Sword
This sword is an Oakeshott Type X with a Type I pommel and a Type VII crossguard. The long and wide fuller on this blade lightens the overall sword and makes it possible to deliver fast and shearing cuts capable of cutting through the mail and padding that were worn during the period. The long guard offers good protection from an opponent's shield or blade while the classic wheel pommel brings the sword very nicely into balance. This type of sword was in service for a long period of time throughout all of Europe. Made by Windlass Steelcrafts®.. Overall-39 1/2". Blade-33" long, 2" wide. Wt.-3 lbs. Circa 1300 Sword can be sharpened for an additional $18.00

Long Sword
Despite having several names - War Sword, Great Sword, Long Sword and even Two-Hand Sword - and causing some confusion among collectors, the large sword was quite a popular weapon. Its great length gave it both reach and power, since the length increased the velocity substantially. However, with the addition of the long ricasso, the sword became even more formidable. The ricasso allowed the sword to be gripped past the guard, thus shortening the sword and allowing it to be used as short spear. This made a thrust more solid since the blade is held securely at two separate points. Our version of this sword is as formidable weapon as the originals. The blade is high carbon steel, tempered to a tough spring, the grip is ridged wood, wrapped with leather, and the pommel and guard are steel. Comes complete with leather scabbard. This is an interesting sword type that belongs in all collections of swords. Made by Windlass Steelcrafts®.. Scabbard included.  Overall-48" Blade-38" long, 1 7/8" wide, 3/16" thick Wt-3 lbs. Long Sword - Sharp - $263.00

15th Century Longsword
The longsword, often called a hand-and-half, saw a great deal of service as a weapon of war, but was also employed a great deal as a civilian weapon of self- defense. Coupled with a dagger, the longsword was an excellent defense against robbers, thieves, footpads, assassins and even some of the robber bands that might roam the countryside. A good serviceable point allowed it to be used for thrusting, and a medium weight allowed it to be used easily and carried with equal ease. This weight also allowed it to be used with one hand with a dagger in the other. But when needed, it could be gripped with both hands for a very powerful cut. Pommel and guard are steel. Grip is wood wrapped with leather and wire. A beautiful and very functional sword. Made by Windlass Steelcrafts®.. Includes scabbard.  Overall-45 1/2" * Blade-36 1/2" long, 1 13/16 " wide, 3/16 " thick * Wt.-3 lbs. 4 oz.

English Two-Hand Sword
Circa 1450. It must have been a fearsome sight having this huge sword coming at you across the battlefield. This particular sword is a copy of number IV-1787 in the Royal Armouries in England. Though big, it is beautifully balanced for two handed use, allowing for sweeping cuts, and it must have swept away all in its path. Scottish Cutlass
The crashing of waves, the roar of cannons, the shout of sea roques through the foreboding mist - this new cutlass can't help but unleash adventurous images. Scottish born Capt. (William) Kidd, we're sure, would have favored this sword. The basket itself provided excellent hand protection and could deliver a hard blow in the crowded melee that ensued onboard. Made by Windlass Steelcrafts®. Includes scabbard.

Pilum
This was the principal weapon of the Roman legionnaire, well designed to destroy the ability of the opponent's shield defense. The short head could easily penetrate a wooden shield, and the long neck prevented the head from being cut off. Thus encumbered, the shield was rendered useless, leaving the opponent unprotected. Made of mild steel, the Pilum would easily bend, preventing it from being thrown back (when the heat of the battle had subsided, it could be retrieved and straightened). Our replica is of a late version that is slightly weighted to aid penetration, common about 100 A.D. Made by Windlass Steelcrafts®. Comes dismounted. Overall 82"

Celtic Spear
From the exciting medieval weapons line - Rittersteel Authentics
Celtic Spear is handcrafted with a blackened flared spear head. This medieval weapon will command respect against other spears. Wider flared blades were widely used by our Celtic  ancestors for hunting as well as in battle. They were more effective in downing a charging wild boar as the blade created a wider, more lethal wound. It was equally as effective in battle, ripping holes in chainmail and armor. Each spearhead with side guard is secured with hand pounded rivets on a rectangular shaved blackened and seared wood handle. A fierce functional medieval weapon for the serious collector! About 6-1/2 ft. long.
Spear is 13"L x 3+”W at widest point.
Total width is 7-1/2 inches.

With the increasing sturdiness of plate armor, the sword became less and less effective against a fully armored knight. Axes and maces soon became the weapon of choice for hand-to-hand combat of the mounted knight. The war hammer quickly evolved and became one of the premier weapons. Generally it was lighter than the mace, and faster. Often it was made somewhat longer, so that the reach could be extended, but also shortened if need be. We ran across this in a private collection, and fell in love with it. Light, fast and deadly. Dates from about 1530 AD. Made by Windlass Steelcrafts®. Overall-25 1/4". Width-head to spike-6 1/2". Wt.-1 3/4 lbs. MR600054 $75.00

16th Century Italian Battle Axe
Early in its active life span, the battle axe was a simple chopping/crushing weapon. Although a few might have decorated blades, by far most were simple effective tools of war. But by the 16th century the axe became a highly decorated weapon. People realized that the shape could be made quite attractive without effecting the efficiency of the weapon. The birthplace of the Renaissance - Italy - saw the development of some really beautiful battle axes. This axe has a strong hardened steel blade with cutouts. The back spike is gracefully curved but has the proper angle to deliver the maximum force when the spike is used. A short steel spike does allow the axe to be used in a short, surprising thrust. Butt cap is steel. The shaft is hardwood, studded with brass tacks. Overall length is 28", a great length for one handed use. an impressive sidearm that combines both beauty and efficiency. Made by Windlass Steelcrafts®. MR600596 $120.00

Danish Hand Axe
To the victims of the Vikings, they were all Danes. It didn't matter whether they came from Norway, Denmark or Sweden, they called them Danes. Most everyone is familiar with the larger Danish Axe, with the monstrous blade sometimes over a foot wide. But smaller axes were quite popular for all sorts of work, hewing the limbs of trees as well as the limbs of men. They could be thrown if needed, but were quite handy in close combat with or without a shield. High carbon steel blade. Not only is this a fine replica, it is a fine axe in its own right. Made by Windlass Steelcrafts®. Overall 21" * Wt.-1 1/2 lbs.

Late War Axe
Guns were starting to replace most Medieval style weapons, but they only shot once and were very slow to reload. The armored mounted warrior was still common and this is just the type of weapon that could be relyed upon when facing an equally armored opponent. The shaft is long to make it possible to easily strike a man on horseback or on the ground. The small wedge shaped axehead could split armor and the long deadly spike could pierce either a helmet or a breastplate. An interesting weapon to add to your collection. Long wood shaft with leather grip. Made by Windlass Steelcrafts. Overall-28 1/2" * Head 2 3/8" x 10" * Wt.-2 lbs MR600644 $110.00

16th Century German Mace
By the 15th Century, armor had become so well developed that it was almost impervious to a sword cut and even a thrust. This heavy German mace, which evolved from man's oldest weapon, the club, could make short work of armor. With a few full sound blows the best of plate would be so damaged that the wearer's movement would be greatly impaired, quickly leading to defeat. This excellent example has 8 flanges and is made from steel which has a rust-protective coating in black to mimic the color of the original. The bottom of the shaft is wrapped in black leather for an improved grip. Made by Windlass Steelcrafts®. Overall: 24" Wt: 4 lbs

16th Century Italian Mace
The mace developed from man’s oldest weapon, a stone topped club, to an elaborate weapon that did not need to breach the armor to cause injury. To an unarmored opponent the mace was extremely debilitating, shattering limbs and crushing skulls. For centuries the mace has have been a symbol of power. European maces suggested wealth and status to their owners, however their use was not exclusive to the privileged. This excellent example has 8 flanges and is made from steel which has a rust-protective coating in black to mimic the color of the original. The bottom of the shaft is wrapped in black leather for an improved grip. Made by Windlass Steelcrafts®. Overall: 24" Wt: 4 lbs

German War Hammer
Circa 1350. The proliferation of plate armor across Medieval Europe was shadowed by the development of crushing weapons like this war hammer. Since swords were virtually useless against plate armor, mounted knights used short hammers, axes and maces to defeat an opponent's improved protection. This beautiful, impressive weapon is replicated from an example in the German National Museum in Nuremberg. Steel head is secured to the hardwood shaft with steel langets. Brass tacks provide a more secure grip. Made by Windlass Steelcrafts®.
Overall: 21-1/2" Head: 5" Wt: 2 lbs

Archer's Axe
Circa 1300. Archers always carried an in-close fighting sidearm, and an axe like this one was a perfect choice as both a good worker and a weapon. The flat poll was good for hammering in stakes that were often used in the defensive line, and then the blade could be used to sharpen them. This is a basic European pattern that was carried and used by infantry as well as mounted warriors as its design is just so practical for all kinds of uses in the field as well as war. Tempered steel head on a good hardwood shaft. Add this highly functional piece of history to your collection.
Overall: 20" Blade: 4-3/4 x 3-7/8 Wt: 1 lb/8 oz
MR600798 $60.00

Bar Mace
Circa 1300. The remains of a mace of this type were found in the River Thames, but they were in use all across Europe. Little finesse was needed for this brutal mace, and a warrior strong enough to wield it could crush helms and break swords with the heavy blows it could deliver. Made from four bars of steel with a wood and leather grip and a large steel pommel to help balance it, this is indeed an awesome weapon. Made by Windlass Steelcrafts®. $5.00 additional Shipping & Handling charge included. Overall: 28-1/2" Blade: 20" x 2" x 3/16" Wt: 4 lbs/8 oz

Pole Axe
We ran across this pole axe in a private collection and immediately decided we needed to replicate it. With a long history of use, the pole axe was very popular in the lists, with the winner being decided by the number of blows fairly struck. It was also quite popular for use on the field of battle. With a good sharp point it could be used as a short spear, the back or spike could be used to pierce armor, and the axe head itself was quite lethal. Superb copy, with a high carbon blade and langets to protect the shaft. A magnificent example of a pole arm. Made by Windlass Steelcrafts®. ($5.00 additional shipping included)
Overall: 68" Head Spike: 10" wide Wt: 4 lbs/12 oz MR600640 $150.00

Battle Axe
Circa 1100. The axe is almost as old an implement as the club. Metal axe heads were among the first handiworks created during the Copper Age. With all this history it is easy to see why a Medieval warrior would choose a good axe for battle. This axe, circa 1100, has a back spike to add to its effectiveness as a weapon of war. The steel head is pinned to a hardwood shaft that is curved at the end on this one hand axe. Made by Windlass Steelcrafts®.

Siege Weapons

Trebuchet for sale located in Hansville, WA 98340

Siege Perilous is a functional, competition grade trebuchet (catapult). It competed at the '07 Burlington Pumpkin Pitch in Burlington, WA. It's longest pitch of a 10lb pumpkin was 999.6ft (that's 3 and 1/3 football field lengths). In a relaxed position, it stands almost 30' tall. The machine could be used in competition, as a unique landmark or as yard art. Sling and Counterweights weighing 1200lbs; not included

Details of its construction and video of it in action are available at:
http://www.twrkos.blogspot.com
http://www.launchvideo.blogspot.com

Frame:
The frame construction is of rough sawn Douglas Fir. Most of the beams are 6"x12". The base beams alone are 6"x15"x15'.

Joints:
Most of the joints are of the mortise and tennon style and are plated with 1/4" steel plates.

Throwing Arm (TA):
The TA measures 17' from the main axle and tappers from 6"x15" to 6"x6". On the end of the TA is an adjustable release finger.

Axles:
It has 3 axles made of 2.5" steel bars. The main axle features axle boxes that are made of 1/4" steel throughout and have bronze bushings to go around the stainless steel bar. The second axel is at the end of the short arm (SA) and is where the counterweight (CW) pivots. The third axel is on the end of the CW prop beam and it allows the CW to swing.

Triggers:
This is a King Arthur (KA) style, dual trigger machine. The first trigger is attached to the steel beam that props the CW. This trigger uses a SeaCatch mechanism to release the CW (Our team used bulldozer counterweights weighing 1200lbs; not included). The second trigger is pulled as the steel beam reaches horizontal and consists of a pelican hook style mechanism.

CW Bucket:
We made a semi-authentic bucket that can be attached to the CW hanger/prop. It proved to be too wide for functional use but when it is attached it gives a far more medieval look to the whole set-up.

Sling:
There is no sling included with this machine. We ripped ours up the last time we used it. Siege Perilous could really use a new sling made of 1/8" stainless steel cable and some parachute material. It needs to be about 15' from end to pouch and about 15.5' from the pouch to the other end.

Slide:
Our slide is made of pressure treated 2"x6"s. It is loose, which allows a small degree of aiming.

Cocking:
To cock the machine we used a hand winch (not included, and not recommended; a powered winch would be better). While in the relaxed position we would secure the CW trigger, thereby locking the CW in the propped position. The winch line would be run through a pulley to a carabineer that was run up the TA like a flagpole. Once the TA was nearly to its cocked position, we would tie off the TA and move the pulley and then winch it down the last few feet. Then we would tie it off again, remove the winch and attach the secondary trigger.

Set-up and tear down:
The size and weight of this machine requires the use of a crane or excavator. You need a ground clearance of 17', minimum.

Transport:
The design of the frame allows the whole machine to fold down and fit in a 8'x20' trailer.
